Her rank was announced by Aikido Sandai Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba on the occasion of the Kagamibiraki (New Year's) ceremony, 9 January 2012, at Aikikai Hombu Dojo, Tokyo, Japan. Sensei Hendricks is the only female in the world, possessing the rank of 7th Dan, who runs an organization.
